We’ve got lots of Divas, halos, and strong women in the countdown this month.  March Madness was more about the Fame Ball tour than anything else.  Yes, there was the Circus tour going on as well with Britney Spears which has had great reviews and touched down this week in cities such as Kansas City, Dallas, and Houston.  March has turned out to be a Britney vs. Lady Gaga Madness of its own.  The two divas have been battling it out for the Princess of Pop in which Perez Hilton has already tried to give away to Magesty Gaga.  Britney may have lost this because she just is not as fierce as she once was but she is still pretty close.  Britney is on her way to getting her thang back!

Anyways, once, not so very long ago in the grand scheme of things, I actually took care of my nails. I still have my small - fewer than 10 bottles - collection of OPI nail lacquer, and every once in a while I’ll look at them, and give the bottles a little shake to see if they’ve turned solid yet, and think wistfully back to the time when my nails always looked good, and ponder setting some time aside to revisit those good ol’ days.

Of course, my nails are in borderline desperate need of a good trim, since three of them are broken and two have a strange wonkiness to their edges. My cuticles are kind of on the dry side too.

Well. Maybe in a couple of weeks everything will be all evened out and I can once again ponder the land of the manicured.

Or maybe in a couple of weeks I’ll be even worse off than I am now…. *eek*

Who wants to be my new Wingman?

As this site keeps growing at top speeds each month and year we have to seek out more help in writing, coding, promotions, and even get some people involved in some of the big events to bring back the goods to this site.  We want to keep things simple and not lots of flashy photos or slow over animated gadgets.  We want to be out there and let you see what is going on and what people are talking about at these clubs, shows, concerts, spas, and events such as pride.

I am needing lots of people who can exclusively write for us and other people who may need to do other similar sites as long as its not the same content.

We also need some people who can post weekly on the politics regarding each states liquor laws, dance permits with afterhours, and the drinking age.  This is an area we really plan to focus on in the next year or so.  We need more people out there protesting, getting laws made, or getting rid of laws that take away our freedoms we deserve.

But what about my wingman.  I need someone in either Dallas, Houston, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans/Pensacola area, Los Angeles/Hollywood/Long Beach.  If you live in any of these areas and would love to hang out with me when I am in town and we can get some content from the events and clubs and have lots to talk about from our nights out.

Let me know what city you live in and if you are able to travel much or just what events you plan or want to attend.  Including concerts, circuit events, club themed parties, or a seasonal P-Town gathering.  If you wish to be one of my wingmen in certain cities or more than one let me know.  We will focus on Dallas, Houston, Orlando, and Los Angeles at first then reach out further after that.

I like to think of myself as a pretty easy-going kind of person. I like to believe that while I may find things irksome, I don’t let them really bother me.

Today, though, something really ticked me off, and I know it really got to me because the event in question happened around lunchtime today, and it still makes me mad when I think about it. I’m not obsessed or anything, so I’m not mad all the time, but when I think about it - yep, still ticked.

I share an office with two other people. It’s a small office, but our work schedules work out in such a way that we’re almost never more than one person in there at a time, so we don’t get in each other’s way. There is, however, a storage issue. Two of the three desks are equipped with drawers, and there is one filing cabinet in the room. I’m using the drawer-less desk. If I want to leave some work items in the office, so I don’t have to schlep them around with me, I’m a bit stuck - some of the stuff is sensitive and needs to be kept somewhat private, so I can’t just leave it on top of my desk.

So I poked around a little several weeks ago and determined that one of the drawers of the filing cabinet was empty. I checked with admin, and was told that the cabinet was there for our use, so if there was an empty drawer I should feel free to use it. So I claimed it - put some of my stuff in there. I’ve been using it happily ever since.

Until today.

Today, I stashed some things in my drawer, and then went to another workspace to, well, work. When I returned to the office, I was just dropping in quickly to retrieve some items from my drawer and head out. I opened the drawer and recognized nothing - it was full of things that were not mine. I closed it again, sure that I had somehow mistakenly opened the wrong drawer. I looked more carefully. I opened what I was now absolutely certain was my drawer. It was still full of stuff that was not mine. I shifted my gaze upward and saw my stuff sitting on top of the filing cabinet.

One of my office mates took my things out of the drawer and replaced them with her own!

I was flabbergasted. Who does that? What makes a person think that they have the right to displace someone else’s things to make room for their own? Seriously! This woman already has a drawer in her desk and two of the four drawers in that filing cabinet. I have no desk drawer. All I had was that drawer. When you open a drawer, and see that there is something in there, is it not normal to think, Oh, someone’s using this drawer and move on? And not, Hm, I don’t know who this belongs to, but it shouldn’t be in this space because I need it! Granted, I didn’t have lots in there. But it wasn’t empty either. It very obviously wasn’t empty. She didn’t pull an early-bird-gets-the-worm. She basically decided my claim on the space wasn’t valid, evicted me, and reclaimed it for herself.

Well. This makes me glad that there’s only a month left in this work contract.

Okay. . Time to retreat to the happy place…

Yes, I know the idea is not to eat the gloss, but it’s on your lips - no matter what, you’re gonna taste it at some point. I thought about returning it, but couldn’t really see a point in that - it had been free, and it’s not as though they could resell it. So I just put it in my drawer.

Fast forward to now. I’m rooting around in my drawer, when I notice that a little plastic baggie has some clear goo on it. Fortunately, the goo is only on the baggie. I quickly realize the goo has leaked out from the freebie gloss tube - when I pick it up while investigating, I discover the tube is also gooey. It now sits on my bathroom countertop. It’s still sticky.

I should throw it out. But that seems so wasteful. But it was free, and I’m never ever going to use it because I don’t like it.

Perhaps my mother’s fears are lurking in my mind, preventing me from using the necessary force to complete the act appropriately.

So, one of the buildings I work in has implemented power saving measures in the restrooms - well, I know about this for certain in the women’s, I haven’t exactly checked out the men’s, nor do I intend to do so. Yurk.

Earlier this week, though, I walked in there when the lights were dimmed, and they brightened up right away. I was the only one in there.

That one time, I was significant enough to activate the lights.

At first, it felt good. Like I mattered in the grand scheme of things.

About a half second later, it felt bad. Like I had significantly increased in girth or something, thereby accounting for the increase in my detectability.

At least my clothes still all fit….

I’ve been feeling a little high strung lately. Today, though, I happened to open up the little calendar organizer thingy in my phone to check something in my schedule, and I saw something that made me blink a couple of times and look again more closely.

I have not had a single day off from work since March 2.

Now, I’m not talking Woe is me, there have been no statutory holidays this month. I mean, I have worked. Every. Single. Freaking. Day. Since. March 2. Including weekends. We are talking about 24 consecutive days of work.

Now, not all of those days were full eight hour days. Some were as little as four. Then again, others were as long as twelve or thirteen, and I think there were enough of those to pretty closely balance out the shorter days. And none of them were work from home days - they all involved me getting up early, making myself presentable in public, and then going out into the world and having to interact with others in some professional capacity.

And before the 24 straight days? I didn’t work March 1, but I did work the previous eleven days straight before then. And before that, I had been working the normal Monday through Friday sort of routine since the beginning of January.

After seeing this truth in my calendar, I felt as though a great weight were lifted from my back. Suddenly, it was no longer so pitiful that I was feeling worn out, suddenly it was reasonable that I just want to spend one single day away from work and work-related things.

As of this moment, I do not have anything scheduled for Saturday, but Thursday and Friday must proceed as has become typical. So if my Saturday remains mine, I will have worked 26 consecutive days.

When I say it like that, I almost feel a deranged sort of pride.

The city of Ft. Lauderdale has turned into the new South Beach judging from the resorts opening up along the beach.  A new W hotel and Westin are just a few of the additions in 2009 not to mention all the gay resorts.  Crobar known for their Chicago and Miami locations plans to open up in Ft. Lauderdale in April.

It has been sometime since we have had a good retro party.  Angles in Oklahoma City is known for its annual Studio 54 Party but this year it may have quite the twist… Shirley Q. First of all I will say I have attended Madonna Rama every year now for over four years and just loved it every year.  2007 was the absolute best year of Madonna Rama when they performed the Confessions opening act.  It was almost as fun going out to this club as the actual concert on this annual night.  This year was not the best mainly because I think they may have been missing a main ingredient which made the night.  The DJ Ed Bailey may have been missing because this DJ sounded nothing like previous years.  Does the til’ 10pm free cover mean they whored out the night and gave away the sacred things we love… the DJ that was there the past few years?  Us true Madonna fans still truly had an amazing time but the club dropped the ball for anyone who has been before and expected more out of the highest ranked club in the nation. =)

When we walked in the club Friday night we noticed that there was NO Signage for MadonnaRama 2009.  We asked the door people and they said it was on the floor.  They put Madonna on the FLOOR as a MAT???  I think they honestly must have had some licensing issues with Madonna’s people or they would have advertised the event more.  It was busy but not as busy as years past.  They were too busy promoting the BritneyRama the next weekend.  In years past this event was marketed way better and packed so full you could not even move.  You had to dance on the box just to dance for a few hours of the night and people would stay dancing until 4am easily.

This truly is one of my favorite clubs in the world but some things have got to be said.  These are some notes from a friend of mine who attended the event Saturday night:

They promoted DJ Ed Bailey- it was more than obvious he wasn’t there.  The DJ was nothing like Ed Bailey.  They basically played dance mixes off a CD it sounded like.  It was not the remixes we were used to.  They played Like a Virgin at least 5 times from 11:30 to 2 am.  There are lots more songs on the Madonna playlist than this boys.  Hung Up wasn’t played until 3 am after MOST of the crowd left.

The Madonna impersonator this year was more like Amanda Lepore with big boobies than Madonna.  I felt bad for her Friday because of all these stains on her pants (not lady like) then on Saturday she falls off the stage dancing.  What on earth is this about?  Doesn’t she watch RuPaul’s Drag Race.. learn some tips girl. And yes I love Amanda Lepore but not as a Madonna illusionist!!

Any time a song from ‘confessions’ came on, the dance floor was back to crowded and there was still some energy in the club like last year but lots of song repeats that were not mixed well.  I think it is better to have Madonna Rama when it is not spring break.  It seemed better attended before, when it was in April.  The video playback was a joke.  At least twice, they played the entire credits from two concert videos.  Yes, they actually played the damn credits. twice.  and let it scroll ALL THE WAY THROUGH.  This was as annyoying as the VJ at Station 4 in Dallas that puts up “Respect the Club” lectures.

The sound was not that “incredible”.  The sound system in South Beach Nightclub seems to not be as fierce as it once was.

Thank God I went do Madonna Rama in 2007, when it was amazing- if this was my first visit to madonna rama, i would not go back.  Hopefully next year they will have the DJ they promised at the very least or brought in DJ Riley who did an incredible job at the Madonna concert afterparty back in November.

Friday nights are the absolute best nights to goto Southbeach if you enjoy good progressive gay house music.  DJ Tucker is by far the clubs best asset right now along with the revamped laser lighting and nitrogen steam plunge.  The laser lights kick azz!

By the way- Madonna and Justin Timberlake are up for a IDMA Dance Music Award at the Winter Music Conference taking place this Wednesday.  Kaskade is also up for best DJ!

I often wonder what sort of impression I make on people.

That boggles my mind.

Sometimes I wonder if something about the way I present myself makes people think that they can talk me down off a deadline? I try to be friendly and approachable and reasonable, but are people translating my efforts in portraying all those qualities into I’m a doormat, please feel free to walk all over me?

I wonder what sort of surprise level it generates when my response to these requests is basically NO. You will bend to my will and OBEY.

One of the pairs shipped was the wrong one - instead of nice, black croc embossed pumps, I got a pair of glitzy sparkly silver things. Some genius stuck the wrong item label on the box. I contacted customer service, was informed that they no longer had the black ones I wanted, terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but would you like to have a pair in brown instead? I went for it, and the replacement arrived about a week later, maybe a bit more. I then inquired about what I should do in returning the wannabe-disco-balls-for-the-feet, got some instructions, and then completely failed to find time to take the darn box to the post office for return shipping.

Perhaps this is the universe’s way of making me send back those shoes - it’s withholding my goodies.

I’m going to send the shoes off tomorrow…..

I’m so excited about the next couple of months that I can barely sit still. That being said, I should probably set myself some work-related goals and dangle these trips like carrots in front of me - get x amount done before Vancouver, get y amount done before Vegas, get z amount done before Paris. That would be the responsible thing to do.

It would also keep me from squandering my days poring over tourism sites…..

Sadly, nothing I say or do at this point will speed my goodies to my door. I’m left with no choice but to stomp around imagining how things would be oh so different with my new stuff, as opposed to making do with my old stuff.

You’d think after all my internet shopping experience, I’d be used to this shipping delay. Apparently, the need for instant gratification fades out very slowly…..

This was a first for me. I’ve had miscommunications in orders before, and the server is always very apologetic, and a bit on the frantic side to correct the error. This was the first time a server tried to tell me I had ordered something that I hadn’t.

In the end, one member of the group agreed to take the dish that was served to us, and proclaimed it tasty. Still, I don’t think I’ll be choosing to return there….

Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty and I still think back on it fondly - perhaps even more fondly than some of the fancier restaurant ones I’ve had - but it was the least hoity toity of all.

Tonight, though, I had a new experience in french onion soup, and I think it tops my scale. The broth wasn’t very salty at all - had a nice, almost sweet onion flavour to it. It didn’t overflow with chopped up onion. The cheese in it was Gruyère, and it didn’t have bread in it - instead it was topped with a blanket of puff pastry. Oh so good. Oh so very good.

Tonight I found myself at a steakhouse for a late dinner - at the Keg, to be more precise. Known for steaks. I like steaks. What did I eat? Not steak, but nachos, baked garlic shrimp, and some garlic cheese toast.

Now before you yell at me for not heeding my own advice, I have to say - Keg nachos are legendary. Seriously. I have yet to find any that even compare. I’m not sure what they do to make them - lace them with crack or something - but they are the stuff nacho dreams are made of.

No, it wasn’t a balanced meal - I’ll make up for it tomorrow. Maybe.

Then I thought to myself, if I’m paying $10 for shipping I may as well pick up some other things that I’ll be in need of within the next month or so. I added some body wash to my order. I added some face cream to my order. Just like that, I was up to $90.

Suddenly, $120 didn’t seem so outlandish and far off. I poked around to see if there were any other things that I thought I might like to try - after all, Sephora’s got a fantastic return policy, to encourage shoppers to try try try out new things.

So even though I need them like I need a hole in the head, I added a couple of lipsticks to my order as well.

I think it’s time for me to back away from the online stores….

The Winter Party benefiting the Gay and Lesbian Task Force which is a grassroots political muscle was quite an event this year. The events are hella expensive but it makes you feel better when you are giving back to the community such as the Task Force.  This event brings some of the biggest dj’s to the Miami area
just a few weeks before the Winter Music Conference.  It also brings in guys and gals from London, Paris, and from all abroad.

I will say that two dj’s stood out more than anyone at the events and they were DJ Roland Belmares at the pool party and Offer Nissam at Mansion Sunday night. We got to the pool party late and did not want it to end just loving Roland’s music as always.  I never realized the following Offer Nissam had until this weekend.  It was something else to watch!

The party Saturday night was held at ParkWest in downtown Miami next to Space. It was the biggest waste of time and money. First of all they do not allow re-entry. You would think after paying $80 to get in a party
you could damn well re-enter the motha. I think just to be able to breath someone would have to walk outside it was like 100 degrees inside there which came down to 99.9 degrees when the nitrogen came down for its split second. I understand nitrogen is expensive but the club in Houston called Southbeach pours it down for several minutes until you freeze and this circuit party could barely squeeze out a few drops leaving us sweating to death lol. But hey its all good we will run our way out of this place and learn our lesson.

So we head over to Twist because its open until 5am and everyone else did the same because the Mercury Rising party was too hot, bartenders from hell, oh wait it was hell… We then get over to Twist and there was a line going all the way down to the next block outside twist and the fire marshall was not allowing anyone to go inside.  They kept people standing outside twist for an hour and a half and when it was around 4:40am they decided to inform everyone no one else is getting inside the rest of the night.  Well so much for Saturday night it was a waste.

The beach party the next day was lots of fun. We especially loved the grand stands at the side it was like a high school football game with WINTER PARTY words on both sides.  That’s hot!

FOOD BREAK - If you want a cheap, trendy, and really tasty place to eat try out Raphael’s off Lincoln.  We ate there twice while we were there in South Beach.  They had some 50% off deal and it was like $7 for delicious pasta meals.  And yeah we did eat some lol.

Sunday night was Cameo which used to be Crowbar with DJ Tony Moran.  We were super excited to goto Cameo again and hit it up for a bit, danced, then went down to see Offer Nissam at the Work party at Mansion.  Yup, another eighty bucks.  Cha-Ching! We walked in and it was lots of hot juicy dancers and amazing music.  It was like a religious experience with Offer Nissam playing he was waving his hands from side to side doing a show on top of the spinning of the music.

We stayed at the Doubletree Surfcomber hotel Saturday and Sunday nights and sure loved the cabanas and quick walk over to the beach.  The shopping in South beach is always addictive until you realize how much you just spent!

I think next year we will just skip the Saturday night party since it has not been all that great two years in a row now.  We will for sure do the pool party and beach party and just do twist and score for the clubbing part at night. Save some money and not die of a heatstroke inside the saunas.

Clubs come and go and come and go and well you get the picture.  We just hope they keep on coming instead of going.  Coming is always the better option right?

No club shall be left untapped even the dirty bars around the corner.  We’ll maybe a few of those.  But we have heard so much about the Living Room Nightclub in Ft Lauderdale not from anyone we know but from a colony of Myspace titles sort of like a futuristic beehive promoting the spot.

Having almost lived in Ft. Lauderdale and obsessing over a nightclub that closed down called Coliseum or Coli as some called it my curiosity just ate at me to check out this Living Room.  I could not even fathom what on earth a Living Room could be but I was damn well going to find out.  I think of a Living Room and I think of the 8 1/2 in Vegas that place SHOULD be called Living Room it has a fireplace and a cozy dance floor around it.  Off the subject but they should rename that to Living Area leading into the 12 inches next door at Piranha.  Only kidding.

We sort of knew what to expect judging from the website.  Kind of predicted it would be fufu-ish, zen-like, busy, bitchy, and have decent music.  It was a beautiful place on the inside and out.  Especially the view from the windows you get of the Los Olas Riverwalk.

Knowing that it would be a bit different we were actually surprised that it’s more of the same of what you would expect to find in the Los Olas Riverwalk district of Ft. Lauderdale.  We expected a little bit more mysteriousness and sexiness you might get in a nightclub.  This place was too much like China White but not located as badly in the war zone down the street.

It was the to be on Friday night and had two rooms with different music formats playing which was nice.
When we first got there it was so packed you could not move… people were pushing and shoving around like trying to get around.  This could be for a few reasons.  One being the design of the lounge/club where the walk to the main dancefloor is a narrow one-way event where it ends at a dead end but to a dancefloor that is fun with boxes and good sound/lighting.  The other reason is that there was some kind of free drink special going on from 10-12 from what I heard.

Overall it was a fun lounge/club it’s too bad they did not position the club away from the trains, fights, and kaos going on in the riverwalk area during club hours.  Someone could really open up an amazing dance club in Ft. Lauderdale again on the Hollywood border or somewhere it could be 18 to enter and 21 to drink. Then again we could have been a little disappointed because we had so much fun at Revolution in Orlando the night before.  Plus we thought it was too much like the China White/Jet Set club.  Hey, if you are VIP and want to buy a bottle im sure you have a few fabulous areas to lounge in and sip away.  I’d rather save that for a Sunday night at Voodoo Lounge with a couch to the big show.

The Living Room is a must see if you are in Ft. Lauderdale on a Friday night out.  Especially if you are in town during the Spring Break season.  I believe it is straight on Saturday but I am not sure.  I could also not find out about afterhours in Ft. Lauderdale now which I think is at Torpedo still?

We first heard that amazing song from Kaskade from their website at LivingRoomNightclub.com.  Fell in love with that song ever since but did not hear this song inside the Ka bar.

If you are staying in Ft. Lauderdale you might consider one of the new hotels that are opening up in the area.  The Yankee Trader was town down and they built a new Westin resort on the beach as well as a new W hotel which should all open up the first week of March.  We will be definitely be checking out the W hotel next trip to Lauderdale Beach.  They are also close to Sebastian street which is the gay-er area of the beach.
